Hi there, my name is Matt April  and I am the voice and personality behind Bent On Better.  I’m a certified personal trainer with strong passion to educate and inspire others to be better in fitness and health. My goal is to be your number one resource for fitness and healthy living, as well as to provide you with the tools to succeed in your weight loss goals, fitness goals, or healthy living goals. I am happily married to my best friend and she’s pretty amazing. She has her own awesome things going on that you should see for yourself. Oh, and we have a new edition to our family, you can catch a glimps of the little guy on my personal Instagram account.

What is Bent On Better?

To be “bent” on something is to be extremely focused on or have a strong inclination or interest in it; a special inclination or capacity.  So, to be Bent On Better, you have strong inclination, interest, or capacity to be better.

There are three main pillars to Bent On Better...

HEALTH

Health and nutrition are very important components to any life goals, whether your goal is to be an athlete, to achieve weight loss, to overcome a disease*, or just live a long and prosperous life. A healthy relationship with food means not avoiding major food groups, no quick fix diets, no magic potions or miracle supplements.  At Bent On Better, the belief is that through proper nutrition and exercises that fit your lifestyle, you can achieve any goal you set your mind to.

Macros

There are three main macronutrients that are the building blocks to the body that is you. As you may or may not know, a macronutrient is a substance or a type of food (e.g., fat, protein, carbohydrate) required in large amounts in the human diet. A micronutrient is a chemical element or substance required in trace amounts for the normal growth and development of living organisms.   Paying close attention to the foods you eat and knowing the macronutrients that make up those foods can help you gain a better body.  But we cannot overlook the importance of micronutrients as well, which is why we have to focus on eating lots of real, as close to nature as possible, whole foods.

No Diets

"Diets are temporary a healthy diet is forever." -

Diets may work, but only when you work… but here’s the thing: diets are temporary, a healthy diet is forever.  The Bent On Better way of eating is to eat for your goals, not to cut out all of the foods you enjoy just because they’re unhealthy.  If you can map out your meals each day, planning ahead, you will know exactly what you’re consuming and how much you’re consuming.  With anything in life, avoiding something you love (that doesn’t cause you direct hard to your health or well being) is no fun! Indulging is the name of the game, but indulging in moderation.

FITNESS

Our lives are just an extension of our fitness levels.  With Bent On Better fitness training, everything is based around functional fitness for weight loss and for improved everyday life.  The goal is to not only have you performing regular daily activities, such as standing up, taking the stairs, running with your kids, etc., without feeling like you just participated in an Iron Man Marathon, but to also to help you regain your health and vitality.  Lose weight, feel good about your fitness, feel comfortable in your own body, and feel confident in your own skin.

Toning & tightening goals?

Here at Bent On Better, weight loss is achieved through strength training. 

No body builders here, no meat heads, no bro-science, this is strength training to improve your lean body mass. 

Toning and tightening is done by strength training in the correct way, while also preventing injury and overtraining.

The goal is to go beyond the steady state cardio mentality.  

Here’s the thing… Running miles and miles on the treadmill could give you the body you want.  But who really wants to spend all of that time doing something so grueling and boring? Don’t worry, you won’t be doing that with Bent On Better.  So, other than running forever, what will give you the body you want?  Working with a trainer using a personalized plan will give you the body you want, and we will do it together with the right blend of strength training AND cardio… Something I like to call metabolic strength training.

WELLNESS

Enjoying and savoring life’s moments.  You have one life to live, we have to make the best of it.  Along with the right nutrition for your goals and proper fitness for your life, we need to take care of your mental wellness.
