The Benefits of TRX Training

Get shoulder pain when you do certain upper-body exercises?

Want to build your core strength to get out of lower back pain?

Heard of this “TRX” thing but are not convinced it can help you with your fitness goals?

Whether new to the fitness world or looking to take your fitness journey to a new level, TRX workouts and the entire TRX system can help anyone, from the fitness newcomer to the ultimate athlete.

Since 2010 I’ve been working as a personal trainer for athletes of all ages.

In 2016 I opened my own gym called Bent On Better, where we have helped hundreds of busy adults get in shape, lose weight, look great, feel great, and have more energy.

Even as a strength training-focused personal training facility, all of our members, at some point or another, feel all of the benefits of TRX suspension training.

The Benefits of TRX Training

Before we understand why the TRX suspension system is so great, let’s briefly describe TRX.

What is TRX?

As stated on TRXTraining.com,

TRX® is the registered trademark name for a specific brand of suspension training fitness equipment. Suspension training is a bodyweight exercise developed by a Navy SEAL (the Navy SEALs) that simultaneously develops strength, balance, flexibility, and core stability. It requires using the TRX Suspension Trainer, a lightweight performance training tool that uses gravity and the user’s body weight to perform hundreds of exercises (from basic body movements to high-intensity interval training).

The TRX Suspension Trainer is a great way to get a quick, fun, and effective total-body workout no matter where you are on the fitness spectrum. Although the market now has many suspension trainer options, the TRX Suspension Trainer is the original workout system that allows users to perform hundreds of exercises by leveraging gravity and the user’s body weight.

Because you can adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance, you have complete control over how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise. All you need is a solid structure for an anchor point and a set of TRX straps, and you’re off to the races for a great workout for your entire body!

The Best Training Around

TRX Training

So why do I think that a TRX training is the best training around? Well to begin, there are three foundational movements are all based around certain standards of the human movement system. Let me share with you a quote that I heard many times over the past weekend in both courses that I believe will help illustrate the importance of this sections. “Proximal stability leads to distal mobility.” Now, to all of you non-fitness professional fitness loving people out there, this simply means The better you are at stabilizing your core, the better you will be at moving your appendages (arms, legs, etc).

The three core, basic movements for the TRX training system are:

 Plank | Pull | Hinge

The Benefits of TRX Training

The TRX training system allows you to get a fast, effective full-body workout without any additional equipment or need for an indoor facility.

Because the TRX Suspension Trainer requires you to engage your core with every exercise, proper form is super important, so you get the best whole body workout every time you train.

Some of the benefits of using the TRX training system are:

Improve mobility and flexibility

Improve muscle tone (build muscle)

Develop functional strength

Low Risk of Injury

Train anywhere

Improve Mobility and Flexibility

Using this form of suspension training, you can challenge your body by simply changing the angle of your body and working on functional movements that allow you to work through limitations in your own range of motion.

Improve Muscle Tone (lean muscle)
The three core, basic movements for the TRX training system are the Plank, the Pull, and the Hinge. Many of the exercises you can do with the TRX (or any suspension trainer with adjustable straps) require the user to use a lot of the posterior muscles (back muscles) and require a strong core. But with more time under tension in each exercise, you increase your chance to improve muscle strength (which can also aid in weight loss!)

Develop Functional Strength

People of all fitness levels can use the TRX to develop functional strength, whether you are a fitness enthusiast with a pre-existing injury or someone looking for a new hobby of fitness! Professional athletes even use the TRX suspension training system in sports ranging from golf to football and mixed martial arts to swimming! This training system is even beneficial for an Olympic athlete! All athletes can develop and improve functional strength, especially by working with personal trainers and strength coaches who can teach a specific workout program based on their goals.

Low Risk of Injury

The low impact nature and versatility of the TRX suspension training provide different ways to challenge each user. Whether you are in a TRX class as a fitness enthusiast or an advanced athlete looking to enhance your workout routine, the TRX trainer can give a great full body workout that can develop overall strength with less risk than traditional resistance training with free weights.

Train Anywhere

TRX suspension workouts can be done practically anywhere (indoors or outdoors). Regular TRX suspension training was created for Navy SEALs as a method of training in unstable conditions that only need the user’s own body weight to get a fully comprehensive workout.

TRX Training

The TRX training system focuses on improving the parts of the human body that have been neglected and are just as important as the ones we always remember to work.

TRX training activates more core muscles for stability, which is our main way of controlling our body, resisting movement, and managing rotation.

Whether you’re an experienced athlete or a newbie to the fitness world, incorporating TRX training into your routine can help you unlock your true potential and take your fitness journey to the next level.
